Sam Afshar is the Director of the Department of Anesthesia’s Medical Student Education Training as well as the Department’s Anesthesia Simulation Program at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, AZ. He received his anesthesia residency degree from the same institution.
Dr. Afshar’s training has included in-depth exposure to high-risk obstetrics, organ transplantation, major cardiac and thoracic procedures, patients with mechanical cardiac support, and trauma at a level-1 trauma hospital. He is a published author in the areas of pulmonary vascular physiology and aortic surgery for complex medical patients.
Recently, he has introduced mock oral examinations style questions into his department’s residency simulation training program and has revised the 4th edition of the medical student curriculum.
